|
|
I just received my Twinlab Pantothenic Acid (B-5) caps and I am wondering how many I should take. They are 500 mg each. Solomio, I read you take 3 100mg in the morning and 3 at night. So should I take only one 500 mg per day? Or one in the morning and one at night? I don't know if size plays a role in how much you should take, but if it does I am 6'3" 195lbs and am male. Also are there any other products I should take while on B-5? Oh, and should you always take B-5 with food?
Thanks! |

Hi Guest,
Right now my skin is clear most of the time. When I break out it is a small break out and does not last.
I still take supplements and will probably for the rest of my life because there are so many benefits from taking them.
I take what would be considered a maintenance dose of B5 because one of the benefits of taking it is that it helps to eliminate excess Cortisol production. Cortisol and stress go hand in hand. So I am taking the B5 to help eliminate stress from my life. I also take extra magnesium for the same purpose. It works!
I am guessing that you want to take a mega dose of B5 on a daily basis to get rid of acne?
I never took B5 in a mega dose to get rid of acne but many people are doing this, and it is working for them.
From all that I have read it seems that you should start with 2 grams, which would be 4 of those TwinLabs caps. Since they are caps the B5 is going to be released all at once into your gut. I suggest that you also take a multiple B Complex each day. Always eat when you take the B5. The multiple B Complex should help to keep you from getting an imbalance in your body from taking the mega dose of B5. The B Complex should include biotin in the formula. This should help to protect your hair from falling out.
I am not sure how many days you should stay on the 2 grams but I do know you are supposed to work up to around 10 grams a day and then you are supposed to slowly taper down the dose.
I am sure someone who is an expert on mega doses of B5 will post on this thread and help you out more than I have with the length of each stage where you increase your dosage and then reduce your dosage of B5.
Besides reducing stress by reducing Cortisol, B5 is often taken with B6 and Chromium for weight reduction.
B5 is water soluble, and I have not heard of anyone having any physical problems after quitting it.
You should experience a dry up of facial oils and a reduction in stress. You may lose some weight. Some people get a queasy stomach. That is why I suggested you always eat something when you take it.
I suggest that you also take a multiple mineral with your B vitamins, and enough zinc to bring up your zinc intake to 50mg. Vitamin C also reduces stress and vitamin C works to balance out your hormones. 1 to 3 grams of vitamin C on a daily basis will do it for you.
So that is it: B 5, B Complex that includes biotin, multi minerals plus extra zinc, and vitamin C. The multiple minerals will contain calcium and magnesium, which are vital for managing acne. The only thing missing is a detox!
Try to do some form of detox like drinking water with fresh lemon in it every day. I take milk thistle as well to keep the liver cleansed. It works!
Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply Solomio.
So 10g a day of B-5 is safe, can you overdose or get sick from too much B5? Do you know what the proper work-up schedule should be? Like 1 week of 2g, 1 week of 3g, 1 week of 4g, up to 10g, and then back down or...? What's a brand of multiple b-complex you recommend?
I read your post a while back about your vitamin regimen and purchased a lot of the same stuff you take and was basing what I should take on what you take. But if your in a maintenance schedule, while I am active, what should I take for dosage of the following...
Natures Life - Mega Minerals
vitamin C (ascorbic acid)
Primrose/Cod Oil
Milk Thistle
Grapeseed
Bilberry
Coral Calcium
Chromium Picolinate
I started drinking lemon water and I am wondering how much fresh squeeze lemon you put in per 8oz? Like 1/4, 1/2, etc. About how many glasses of lemon water do you drink each day? What else should I take to detox?
Thanks a ton Solomio!!!! |

O.K.
First the water. I drink only filtered water. I have a filter installed on my kitchen faucet. To 8oz of filtered water I add the juice of a thick slice of lemon that is between 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. If it is in my sports bottle I just add the lemon juice but in a glass I will throw in the peel. The peel adds flavor, and then when I refill my glass I don't always have to do another slice of lemon to get the flavor plus some lemon oil is still in the peel and gets into the water. I go through a lemon a day. Before I cut a lemon I scrub it with dish detergent and rinse it well. You never know what could be on the skin of fruits and veggs so always clean them in one way or another.
Natures Life - Mega Minerals.......... 4 a day divided in 2
vitamin C (ascorbic acid)..........1 to 3 grams in a day
Primrose/Cod Oil ......... 2 1000mg gel caps divide dose into 2
Milk Thistle .........2 a day
Grapeseed .........2 a day divided into 2 this is a powerful antioxidant
Bilberry .........1 or 2 a day this is another antioxidant that especially helps the eyes and urinary system; you will notice that your night vision will be quite sharp in about a week after you start taking Bilberry
Coral Calcium .........1 500mg gel cap as added calcium in addition to what is in the Mega Minerals; I may take more in time I just started taking this form of calcium
Chromium Picolinate ........1 200mcg gel cap a day I just started taking Chromium as an additional mineral there is some in the Mega Minerals already

Thanks Solomio, I think I read that you use Retin-A also? Currently I use nothing but face wash and moisturizer. After trying a ton of over the counter and prescription medication with no luck, I lost hope. Do you recommend I take any other medicine or creams along with my vitamins? Oh, the face wash I use is Carly's and the moisturizer is Oil of Olay "Complete". And currently after just going off oral antibiotics my skin is REAL bad.
This vitamin treatment is one of my last hopes. I think I have three options left.
1. Vitamins, natural diet
2. Accutane
3. Grow a grizzley adams beard
Also, I have certain reasons to beleive my acne is a little different from others in that I may be inducing it with certain actions I do. Would you be interested in lending your expertise for my situation if I create a new post and detail my specifics?
Thanks!!! |

Guest,
As I remember there is a small amount of cottonseed oil in one of the Carley's products and there is cottonseed oil in one of the Olay products.
Cottonseed oil makes pimples on some peoples skin.
I have no way of knowing if you are one of those people but it would be wise for you to try to avoid this oil in both food and in topicals for your skin until you know for sure if it is causing some of your problem.
Note I say 'some' because I believe that it is a lot of different things that cause our misery.
Take care,

i read that "overdose" of b5 will result in diarrhea
Also as solomio said i investigate the "causes" of acne and my results are not encouraging,i found "factors" that contribute in acne from diet to enviromental status, weather, water activities and the list goeson.. i believe its just impossible that so many things cause acne cause everybody would have acne for a lifetime if that was the case _________________ "I succeed because I'm willing to do the things you are not"
