Hey ss,
Sounds like your not too keen to go on Minocin anyways. It's your skin and if you feel its getting better and would rather not start taking antibiotics then thats your call...maybe give it a little bit longer until you feel its necessary (if ever).
I've been taking antibiotics on and off for about a year now (but only since my acne got severe) and so far minocin is about the only thing that has given me any significant improvement. I also tried erythromycin and azelaic acid but no success there. But the success of an antibiotic depends entirely on the individual and the type of acne you have...it wont work for everyone and isnt a longterm treatment. Usually doctors say it will take several weeks before you see any improvement on antibiotics but the full effects wont be seen for several months coz acne responds fairly slowly.
Whether you start taking minocin is really entirely up to you and your doctor/derm. With all due respect your mum isnt a doctor _________________ I also made a Marzipan voodoo effigy of The Fonze while I was in a coma after smoking some Peruvian prayer hash |

Well b4 i started taking minocin i had been fairly niave about acne and the best way to look after my skin so i was in a bit of a state. My acne has never been REALLY severe but when i started taking minocin i noticed mild results pretty quickly - this may have been purely psychological but i remember feeling convinced within a couple of weeks that spots weren't occuring as often as before and within 2 months my skin was significantly better (i must stress tho that my skin never cleared!!). Oh yea and there was no initial breakout 4 me.
BUT (just to present a fair opinion of minocin) after about 6months the improvements stopped and it seemed as though i was getting more spots again. The doc said i may be becoming immune to the anti's (not uncommon) and so i was prescribed sum other stuff (erythromycin) but this actually made my skin worse.
After this i panicd a bit and was prescibed dianette (an anti-androgen contraceptive) but have since returned to minocin alongside the dianette to control breakouts. It does seem to be working again but NOT AS WELL AS BEFORE. I must have developed immunity which puts me in a bad BAD situation coz what my doctor didnt tell me was that often after stopping anti's people will experience a breakout...i only learnt this the other day from this forum!! Check out the posts in the link below

Because of this im thinking about stopping the minocin shortly in search of a longterm treatment instead but obviously i now risk breakout again!! I didnt really look into anti's b4 i started taking them but in hindsight i wouldnt necessarily say i did the right thing. Good luck in your decision, hope whatever you choose to do works out!! Oh and if you have ne more questions just ask (a lot of people on this site have had experience with minocin i think) _________________ I also made a Marzipan voodoo effigy of The Fonze while I was in a coma after smoking some Peruvian prayer hash |

Im afraid there's really nothing much you can do. Its the case with most anti's that eventually ur body just learns to cope with them and finds a way to overcome them making them less effective - kinda like a natural defence mechanism but in reverse.
But don't get disheartened by other peoples experiences, it may be that minocin is the answer for you and may clear up your skin. If it didn't work for at least a small proportion of people then doctors wouldnt keep prescribing it coz its costing the health system money aswell. And even if it isnt the answer there's always other options
Neways keep us posted on how it goes 4u - good luck! xx _________________ I also made a Marzipan voodoo effigy of The Fonze while I was in a coma after smoking some Peruvian prayer hash |
