Hey guys-
I have been taking B-5 for a month now. I started using the powder form from acnemiracle.com about 2 weeks ago. Today I got way sick from it! I was at work and I tossed my cookies. I had to go home early. Luckily, no one saw me.
So, my questions are: Is it possible that I took the dosages too close together? Usually I do 8am 12:30 pm, and 7pm. Last night I missed my third dose and today I didn't get to take my 1st one until 10:30am. Then, I took my second at 1:30pm. Could the difference between 3 and 4 hours make such a difference in how my body responds to the supplement? I swear I felt poisoned or something. Not to mention that I had no juice or spoon so I had to drink the concoction with seltzer water and I really couldn't measure all that accurately when I dumped the dosage into my cup. I measured with the cap of the bottle, but who knows if I overdid it. I was so busy today. And then I royally screwed up because I had to leave work early after my little episode in the bathroom.
Has anyone ever had a similar experience with B-5? |

| perhaps you took to much or maybe it was something you ate.If you havent had this problem in the past then i would say it was one of the two i mentioned.If it continues your body is telling you something and i would stop taking it. |

Hi Palomitica
Is it possible that you did not eat before you took the B5 powder?
You have to have enough of both Folic Acid and Biotin (both B vitamins) in your system in order to absorb and use B5. Since you are mega dosing on the B5 it is recommended that you take extra Folic Acid and Biotin as supplements, and the best method to get enough of these 2 B vitamins is to take a multiple B vitamin. The B5 powder should also have recommended that you have a meal when you take it. Lots of different supplements require that you have something in your stomach so you don't turn.
I have had the experience of getting sick to my stomach in the past from taking extra zinc as a supplement, on an empty stomach. I remember driving down the freeway feeling like I was goint to toss up!

It is interesting but I have also read elsewhere that vit C is also needed when taking B5. If you take large doses of Vit C you also need extra Folic Acid in order to absorb it into your system. Each vitamin is dependant on other vitamins in order to absorb into the body, and be used by the body as they were intended.

| You have given me some great advice. I am embarassed to say that I have not been taking other supplements with the B-5. I have been so busy and trying to get this new regime under my belt step by step. I will be visiting my natural foods store asap to buy the other vitamins you recommended. Thanks again. |

Hey Palo; remember too, that essential fatty acids are vitally important as well; high doses of B5 will depelete your system of EFA's and your hair will start to get dry and brittle.
I read on another acne board where this very thing is happening to a girl. So be sure to take your EFA's also.

Hi there...
I am in the process of weaning myself off of B5. It cleared me up a great deal but I'm experiencing some very annoying side effects.
I am feeling very lathargic... especially when I consume alcohol... not 10 shots but just from like 2 drinks. I used to be able to drink people under the table, now after 2 rum n diets, I'm ready to call it a night.
My hair is also very dry, lifeless and dull. I've always had great hair (not to be bragging but hey, it's like the only thing I've got going for me)... long, healthy, very thick and wavey. Now, it's dry and frizzy and the curl is just gone. Yuck.
I've been on b5 for many months now (5 grams per day) and I am gradually going down to 1 gram. I'm going to keep taking the other supplements (efa, b50 complex, zinc, C and E) but cutting out the vitamin A as well.
I am not a big partier but damn, I'm only 23 and would like to go out every now and then and be able to stay awake until 10 pm! ha!
A friend of mine from another board says this is due to dehydration. The b5 is making me dehydrate much quicker and I'm expelling all my b vitamins while drinking. Sounds about right.
Good luck. B5 IS awesome and was a "cure" for me. Just watch out for those side effects! |

HEY... I think that girl on the other board you all are talking about experiencing hair probs! I had been slacking on my EFAs. They are so damn expensive, I quit taking them for like 2 weeks. Do you all think this is causing my hair to go all to hell?? And not the B5?? Interesting...
Well, I picked up a total EFA from GNC. It was a bit cheaper, actually $10 cheaper than the original I was taking.
I am going to start taking this daily so hopefully this hair will straighten up!!! |

Currently, I am taking GNC brand EFA complete. It has Marine microalgae oil, flax seed oil and borage oil in it.
I wonder if this is enough to help my hair? |

I was just wondering how many people who complain of sickness from megadosing on supplements are not being careful enough when taking them.
Maybe they arent eating a healthy diet or maybe their general lifestyle is unhealthy to begin with and their bodies arent able to cope with so many extra supplements?
These regimes shouldnt be taken lightly and to avoid side-effects you should be in good health before trying any of them. |
